DueTick

Privacy Policy

Last updated:

This policy explains what happens to your information when you use DueTick, the iPhone app, and when you contact us. It is written in plain English on purpose, so that you can understand it without reading anything else. If anything is unclear, email us at hello@onemacstudio.in.

The short version.

  • DueTick is between you and your iPhone. We never see your deadlines, and we take no part in what you do about them.
  • We do not collect your data. There is no account, no sign-up and no server of ours. Nothing you type into DueTick is sent to us.
  • Your deadlines stay with you, on your iPhone and, if you use iCloud, in your own private iCloud storage, which belongs to your Apple Account.
  • No ads, no tracking, no analytics. DueTick contains no advertising, no analytics, no crash-reporting tools and no third-party code. Everything in it is our own code or Apple's.
  • Reminders are made on your iPhone. They do not pass through any server of ours.
  • We only receive what you choose to send us, for example an email asking for help.

This is why DueTick's privacy label on the App Store says Data Not Collected. The rest of this page explains each point in full.

1. Who we are

DueTick is made by OneMacStudio, a sole developer based in Tamil Nadu, India ("we", "us", "our"). OneMacStudio is the trading name of the individual developer named as the seller of DueTick on the App Store. For the little personal data described in section 8, OneMacStudio is the data controller, and the Data Fiduciary under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.

For any question or complaint, see section 17.

2. What DueTick stores, and where

Your deadlines

When you add a deadline, DueTick stores what you enter and what it works out from it:

  • the name you give it, and a note if you add one;
  • its type (Subscription, Expires or One-time), its date, and how often it repeats;
  • the day to act by (for example "Cancel by") and when you want to be reminded;
  • an amount and its currency, if you add one;
  • your answers (such as Cancelled, Keeping, Renewed, Not renewing or Done), any "Later" you chose, and whether you stopped tracking it;
  • when it was added and last changed, the time zone your iPhone was set to when you added it, and a few internal values the app uses to display it.

These are kept in three places, all under your control:

  1. On your iPhone, in DueTick's own private storage, which other apps cannot read.
  2. In your private iCloud database, if your iPhone is signed in to iCloud and iCloud is turned on for DueTick. This is how your deadlines reach your other devices and survive a new phone or a reinstall. This storage belongs to your Apple Account and is run by Apple under Apple's own privacy policy. We have no access to it: we cannot read, change or delete anything in it.
  3. In a file on your iPhone that the DueTick widget reads, so that your widgets can show your deadlines without opening the app. It holds a copy of your deadlines and never leaves your iPhone.

If your iPhone is not signed in to iCloud, your deadlines are kept on that iPhone only. If you then delete the app, they are gone, and nobody, including us, has a copy.

A few small notes on your iPhone

DueTick also keeps a few small notes for itself, on your iPhone only. They are never synced:

  • whether it has already asked you to allow notifications;
  • whether you closed the tip about adding the widget;
  • which version of the app last asked iOS to show a rating request;
  • after you tap or answer a reminder: which deadline it was about and, for an answer, a copy of that deadline as it was before, so that the app can offer Undo. Each is cleared the next time you open the app.

Your backups

Like any app's data, all of the above can be included in your iPhone backups, in iCloud Backup or on your computer. You and Apple control those backups. We do not.

3. What DueTick reads on your iPhone, and why

To work properly, DueTick reads a few settings from your iPhone. It uses them on your iPhone only and never sends them to us:

  • your language, region, time zone and calendar setting, to show dates and amounts the way you expect, to know when your day ends, and to suggest your local currency;
  • whether notifications are allowed, so that it can tell you when reminders are switched off;
  • whether you have added a DueTick widget, so that it only suggests the widget to people who do not have one;
  • whether your iPhone is signed in to iCloud, so that Settings can tell you whether your deadlines are synced or kept on this iPhone only;
  • whether you own DueTick Pro, which the app checks with Apple's App Store system on your iPhone.

DueTick does not ask for or use your location, contacts, photos, camera, microphone, calendar, health data, or any other app's data. It cannot see your App Store subscriptions, your bank, your cards, your email or your messages. Everything it knows about your deadlines, you typed in.

4. Reminders, widgets and the lock screen

  • Reminders are local notifications. DueTick schedules them on your iPhone, on the days you choose, at 9:00 in the morning, your iPhone's time. No server of ours is involved.
  • A reminder shows the deadline's name and its dates, for example Netflix and, under it, Charges Mon 21 Sep — cancel by tomorrow. It never shows the amount.
  • Reminders on your act-by day or later are marked Time Sensitive, so that they can reach you during Focus. You can change this in iOS Settings.
  • The app icon can show a number: how many deadlines need your answer.
  • Anyone who can see your iPhone can see these, on the lock screen, in Notification Centre, on the app icon and in widgets. If a deadline's name is private, give it a name only you will recognise, turn off notification previews for DueTick in iOS Settings, or keep the widget off your lock screen.
  • Background activity. To keep your devices in step, iCloud may wake DueTick in the background. This goes through Apple's servers, not ours. DueTick also asks iOS for a little background time now and then, to keep your reminders and widgets up to date. iOS decides when. Nothing is sent to us.

5. Export a copy

Settings has Export a copy. It makes a spreadsheet file (CSV) of your deadlines, including the ones you stopped tracking: name, type, date, how often it repeats, act-by date, amount, currency, reminders, note and status.

DueTick prepares this file in its own temporary folder on your iPhone when you open Settings, so that it is ready if you need it. It leaves your iPhone only if you share it. Once you share it (by email, a message, a files app or anything else), whoever receives it controls that copy, and this policy cannot cover it.

6. Buying DueTick Pro

Apple handles the whole purchase. We never receive your name, email address, Apple Account, card or payment details. DueTick checks with Apple, on your iPhone, whether you own Pro, and does not keep that answer anywhere else. Apple sends us sales reports that show how many copies were bought and in which countries, not who bought them. Refunds are handled by Apple.

7. What Apple may share with us

DueTick is sold through Apple's App Store. Apple shares some information with app developers:

  • sales and download numbers, by date and country;
  • crash reports and usage statistics, only if you allowed it, in iOS Settings, under Privacy & Security, Analytics & Improvements, Share With App Developers. Apple says this information is aggregated or in a form that does not personally identify you. We use it only to find and fix problems. It does not contain the contents of your deadlines;
  • ratings and reviews you post on the App Store, which are public.

Apple's handling of this information is covered by Apple's own privacy policy.

DueTick may ask iOS to show Apple's standard rating request after you cancel a paid subscription in time, at most once for each version of the app. Apple decides whether to show it. Any rating you give goes to Apple, not to us.

8. When you contact us

Contacting us is always your choice. DueTick works fully without it.

If you email us, we receive:

  • your email address, and your name if your email shows it;
  • whatever you write, and any attachments you send.

We use this only to reply to you and to fix the problem you tell us about. We do not add you to any mailing list, and we never use it for marketing.

Your email is stored by the provider that hosts our mailbox, which handles it only to deliver and keep it for us. That provider may store it outside your country.

We keep an email only as long as we need it to help you and to follow up, and we delete it sooner if you ask. Please do not send us sensitive information, such as passport, card or bank numbers. We never need it to help you.

For readers in the EU and UK: we process your email to answer the request you made, which is our legitimate interest in supporting DueTick.

9. Who we share data with

DueTick shares no data with anyone. It contains no analytics tools, advertising networks or third-party SDKs, and no other company, related to us or not, has access to anything you enter. The only other party that ever handles personal data for us is our email host, for emails you choose to send us (section 8).

10. This website

DueTick's pages are part of onemacstudio.in, which has its own privacy policy. In short, the website uses no cookies, no analytics and no trackers, and stores nothing in your browser. Like any website, its host keeps short-lived technical logs, such as IP address and time of visit, to deliver pages and stop abuse.

11. What we never do

  • We never sell, rent or trade personal information.
  • We never share it for advertising, or build a profile of you.
  • We never track you across other apps or websites.
  • We never show ads.
  • We never use your information to make automated decisions about you.
  • We never ask for sensitive data such as passwords, card numbers, health or biometric data.

12. Your choices and your rights

Because we hold none of your app data, you control it directly:

  • See or change a deadline: open it in the app.
  • Delete a deadline: long-press it, or open it, and choose Delete. If you use iCloud, it is also deleted from iCloud and from your other devices.
  • Delete everything: delete your deadlines in the app, including those under Settings, Stopped tracking, and then delete the app. If you use iCloud, delete your deadlines first. Deleting only the app leaves the copy in your iCloud, so that a reinstall can bring it back. You may also be able to remove DueTick's iCloud data in iOS Settings, under your name, iCloud, storage, if DueTick is listed there.
  • Stop syncing: turn off iCloud for DueTick in iOS Settings.
  • Stop reminders: turn off notifications for DueTick in iOS Settings.
  • Keep a copy: use Export a copy in Settings.

Withdrawing consent. Everything DueTick does with your information follows from choices you made on your iPhone, and you can undo each one at any time: turn off notifications or iCloud for DueTick in iOS Settings, delete a deadline, or delete the app. For an email you sent us, ask us to delete it.

Your legal rights. Depending on where you live (for example under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023, the EU or UK GDPR, or a US state privacy law), you may have the right to access, correct, update, delete or get a copy of personal information about you, to object to or restrict its use, to withdraw consent, and to nominate someone to act for you. The only personal information we could hold about you is an email you sent us. Email hello@onemacstudio.in to use any of these rights, and we will reply within 30 days.

Complaints. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the data protection authority where you live. In India, that is the Data Protection Board of India.

Do Not Track. DueTick and this website do not track you, so there is nothing for a browser's Do Not Track signal to turn off. We treat every visitor as if it were on.

13. How long information is kept

  • Your deadlines stay on your devices and in your iCloud for as long as you keep them. We never hold them.
  • Emails you send us are kept until your question is resolved, then only as long as needed for any follow-up, and deleted sooner if you ask.
  • Information Apple holds, such as purchase records, is kept by Apple under its own policies.

14. Security

Your deadlines are protected by your iPhone's own security: its passcode, and the encryption iOS gives app data. The copy the widget reads can be opened once you have unlocked your iPhone after a restart, so that widgets can work on the lock screen. Your iCloud data is protected by Apple. DueTick does not add its own extra encryption. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your iPhone protected with a passcode.

15. Children

DueTick collects no personal information from anyone, including children. The app is not made for children under 13. If a child has emailed us, tell us and we will delete the email.

16. Changes to this policy

If DueTick ever starts collecting information, this policy will change before the app does, and so will its App Store privacy label. When we change this policy, we update the date at the top and mention significant changes in the app's release notes. You can ask us for any earlier version.
